Hot Stock Fiero GT 2.8 5-speed
Stocks February 8th, 2010
Stock Fieros 2.8s are hot, with a little tweaking for efficiency: This car has up-graded distrubuter, 45000 volt coil, 8mm magnecore wires, platinum plugs (iridium better), K&N air filter, no EGR system to strangle engine (allows your engine to breath), 160 degree thermostate (2.8s want and need to run cool!); all resulting in smoother, stronger, cleaner, more efficient running, and much better gas mileage. It’s like a different car! Next tweak will be a street performance clutch and aluminum flywheel. In this video, I dumped the clutch at 4000rpm, but 5k would be mutch more impressive. I still got 30-ft. of rubber off the line. That means I’m definately getting much more than the factory rated 140hp, just by giving her the tweaks she wants and needs. On the high-way she jumps to 90 faster than she used to jump to 80.

I have an 86 GT same color and body style. I wish I had the 5 speed though. I have the loosey fuel economy 3 speed.

Dad is giving me his. Its literally the same car. (almost)
A stock red 86 gt, looks the exact same.
he put in a different fuel distribution chip i believe, so your tweaks and that tweak might even out a little. too bad my insurance for basic is $270

Cool, always liked fieros. Especially the 87 and 88 GT models.

Wow this is gonna be a hard video to beat, maybe if someone sent in a video of their washing machine filling, or maybe someone chaning the bag in their vacuum cleaner

again a person with nothing to do with their free time but create a profile for bashing. amazing how many losers there are with nothing better to do than make fun of someone for enjoying what they have
February 9th, 2010 at 5:27 am
you created a profile specifically for bashing Fieros? you must have no life im sorry.

how high did you run it up before you dumpedd it? and have you ever broke anything on it doin that?

Decided not to install an alum. flywheel cause it won’t work with a 3800 later. Proceeding with the suspension up-grade.

I think its better starting, running, ecceleration, etc.

Nice Job! I’m planning to do some similar upgrades to my 87 GT also. Any specific improvements you’ve noticed from changing the coil to the high voltage one? Easier to start?
Cheers,
James.

Yeah…maybe, but mine looks lots better doing it…even without rocker panels;-)
February 9th, 2010 at 8:38 am
Sure…you give me one and I’ll handle it, I’d rather you make it a Ford GT though, so I can at least see out of it…lol
February 9th, 2010 at 9:29 am
Good points Dave…you might be right..? I have lots of fun with mine…that’s what counts. I’m sure you do to. I will check out your video. Didn’t know you had one.
February 9th, 2010 at 9:34 am
you will be able to outhandle a new lambo then!! LOL NOT!
February 9th, 2010 at 10:21 am
hey check out my vid. It would whoop you and its just a stock motor too.
I agree this car is slow. Even compared to the factory one it isn’t any noticeably faster then stock. Why because you put a different ignition coil on it? You have thousands of miles on it. Wear and tear decreases hp from factory ratings. You would be lucky if it makes 125 crank hp which is 15 lower then factory.
I bet this car runs a high 15 to low 16 second qtr mile. Civic si’s run low 15’s. So yea its slow.

I think before I do anything else, I’m going to do a complete Fiero Store suspension rebuild, you know…Front and rear performance sway bars, and poly bushings throughout, and KYB shocks all around, followed by a hunter all wheel alignment. I hate driving down the highway having my car wanting to track on the truck tire grooves. Also, notice the way it wants to steer to the right when going off the line! I want to eliminate all of that stuff and put the car back in control of the driver!
February 9th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Yes, I’m refinishing the rocker panels and haven’t got them back on yet. It does look bad I know.

Thanks “J” I agree…

Compared to what? Actually, it’s pretty fast compared to a factory stock 2.8 5-spd. It isn’t as exiting as my old ‘55 Chevy running a Chevy Chaparel hypo 327, but it still fun and I can afford the gas…lol
